Getting started
Add your plugin or theme
Updated Oct 22, 2026
Tracking a product is where TrackWP starts. Once your plugin or theme is on your dashboard, TrackWP records its rank, installs, downloads and rating every day, checks the WordPress.org searches you care about, and tells you when something changes.
Add a product
- Open your dashboard.
- If you don’t track anything yet, the form is at the top of the page. Otherwise, click Add product at the top of the dashboard.
- Choose Plugin or Theme.
- Paste the WordPress.org address, such as
https://wordpress.org/plugins/contact-form-7/, or just the slug,contact-form-7. - Click Track.
You can also start from a listing page. Open Plugins or Themes in the sidebar, find your product, and click Track this plugin or Track this theme. Once it’s tracked, the button reads Tracking · open dashboard.
If you see “We couldn’t find that plugin on WordPress.org”, copy the address straight from your listing and try again.
What happens next
- Up to three of the listing’s tags become your first keywords (two on Starter, so one of its three is left for a search of your own), and each one is searched on WordPress.org right away. Their positions read “checking…” until the first search finishes, so refresh after a moment.
- TrackWP fetches two years of official daily downloads, so the downloads chart is full from day one.
- For plugins, it also reads monthly Internet Archive captures of WordPress.org to fill in older install and rank history, where captures exist.
- Every night, TrackWP’s snapshot of the whole directory updates rank, installs, rating and support figures, then your keywords are searched again. Because the snapshot covers every listing, your rank and install history may already reach back before today, and it grows by a point each night.
Your product card
Each product gets a card with its rank, active installs, downloads a day, rating and search multiplier, plus Keywords, Rivals and Goals tabs. Rank Simulator shows why it ranks where it does. The three-dot menu beside it holds the product’s other tools, such as SEO tools, Listing copy and Support threads. When your plan doesn’t include a tool, the plan it needs is shown in parentheses.
To stop tracking a product, click the trash icon on its card and confirm. Its keywords, rivals, goals and usage data are removed too.
Limits by plan
- Starter: 1 product.
- Boost: 5 products.
- FullCharge: 15 products.
If you move to a plan with fewer products, the extras are paused, not deleted, and they aren’t checked each day. They wait under Paused on the dashboard, where Swap with trades one in for an active product. They resume by themselves when your plan grows. See Change, pause or cancel your plan.
Good to know
- Some tools read plugin search or plugin readmes, so they work for plugins only: the SEO audit and optimizer, the keyword gap and opportunities, listing copy, usage data, support threads and the action plan.
- Next, choose the searches you want to win: Choose the searches you track.
