Getting started

Set a growth goal

Updated Oct 21, 2026

A goal turns a number you care about into a target, with a date if you want one. TrackWP checks it against WordPress.org’s own figures every day, shows how far you’ve come since you set it, and projects when you’ll get there at your current pace.

Set a goal

  1. On your dashboard, open the product’s Goals tab.
  2. Choose what to aim for: Active installs, Rank, Rating, Ratings (the number of ratings) or Downloads a week.
  3. Enter the target. For installs, pick one of WordPress.org’s install bands, such as 50,000+. For rank, enter a position, such as 100.
  4. If you like, pick a date in the by field.
  5. Click Set goal.

TrackWP won’t take a target you’ve already reached. Rank, ratings and downloads need whole numbers, and a rating target goes up to 5.

Read your progress

Each goal shows where you are now, how much of the way you’ve come since you set it, and an outlook such as “At +410 a week: around Jun 3, 2027”. Once there’s an outlook, goals with a date are marked On track or Behind.

The outlook is a straight line through recent history, so it needs enough of it: two weeks for rank and ratings, three weeks of weekly totals for downloads, and a month for rating and installs. Until then, it tells you how many more days it needs. It also says so when you aren’t moving towards the target, or when your pace puts it more than five years away.

How installs are judged

WordPress.org only publishes install bands, so an installs goal is reached when the official band reaches your target, exactly as your listing shows it. Between band changes, TrackWP’s estimate, shown with ≈, shows movement inside the band, but it never marks a goal reached early. For the same reason, an installs outlook waits until WordPress.org has moved your band at least once in the last year.

Alerts and reports

On every plan, you get an alert the day a goal is reached, and another if its date passes first. Goals are checked every night after the WordPress.org snapshot. The monthly report email lists each goal’s progress too.

Limits by plan

  • Starter: 1 goal.
  • Boost: 10 goals.
  • FullCharge: 50 goals.

The limit counts goals across all your products, not per product. Goals past it, for example after a downgrade, stay saved with an “over plan limit” label and don’t send alerts.

To change a goal, remove it with its × and set a new one. If a goal’s date passes, the alert suggests setting a new date or target on the dashboard.
