Questions
Where does the data come from?
From our daily snapshot of the whole WordPress.org directory: every listing, its tags, installs, downloads, ratings and release dates.
How is the verdict worked out?
Each signal counts for (ageing leaders, weak ratings at the top, newcomers breaking through) or against (a few listings holding most installs, a crowded top, small demand). Two or more net signals either way decide it.
How are rising and falling niches measured?
We add up the daily downloads of every listing in a tag today and seven days ago, counting only listings with a figure on both days. Tags with fewer than 8 listings are left out as too noisy.
What counts as a lookup?
Researching a tag you have not looked at this month. Repeat views of the same tag, and the example tags, are free.
