Rewrite your listing with predicted ranks
Updated Oct 21, 2026
Your plugin’s name, short description and tags decide which searches it can appear in, and how well it matches them. The listing optimizer writes up to three new versions around the searches you track, then predicts where each version would rank, so you can choose one before you touch readme.txt.
Run the optimizer
- Track at least one keyword for the plugin on your dashboard. The optimizer writes for those searches.
- Open SEO in the sidebar, choose the plugin in the product picker, and open the Optimize listing tab. You can also choose Optimize listing from the product’s three-dot menu on the dashboard.
- Click Optimize my listing. It takes a moment while it writes and predicts.
- Later, click Run again for fresh versions. The page shows your latest run.
Read the versions
- Your listing now shows your current name, short description, tags and position for each search.
- Version A, B and C each show a new name, a short description with its length out of 150 characters, and tags. Tags that are new are highlighted.
- Top 10 for 3 of 5, for example, counts the searches a version is predicted to reach the top 10 for, with the gain over your listing now. A version that beats your listing and the other versions is marked Best.
- The table under each version shows Now → predicted for every search. New marks a search you aren’t in today that the version would bring you into.
Use the copy buttons to take the text you want. Edit it before it goes in readme.txt, and keep to the plugin guidelines: no keyword stuffing. Tips for your listing appear under the versions.
How predictions work
Each version runs through the Rank Simulator against the latest WordPress.org results for your first 10 tracked searches. The quality multipliers are exact; the text match is TrackWP’s estimate. WordPress.org only returns plugins that contain every word of a search, so a search you aren’t in yet only counts once every word is in the new name, short description or tags. WordPress.org reads the first five tags.
Written with AI or from templates
With an OpenAI or Groq key, the versions are written with AI: your own key from Settings → AI keys if you’ve added one, otherwise TrackWP’s. Without a key they’re built from templates, and the page says which it used.
Limits by plan
- Starter: not included. Starter can draft new listing text, without predicted ranks, on the Listing copy tab: 1 draft a month.
- Boost: 10 optimizer runs a month.
- FullCharge: 30 optimizer runs a month.
The Runs this month meter shows what’s left. If a run fails, its credit is given back.
Good to know
- The optimizer is for plugins, since theme search scoring isn’t published in the same form.
- After you publish new text, the Change log on your listing page shows your rank and keyword positions before and after.
